Tips To Stick To Your New Year’s Resolutions
Physically write down your resolutions. No need to share your goals on social media. As long as you write it down, it makes it feel more official. And the physical copy can serve as a reminder that your goal is tangible.
After you write it down, devise a plan of action. How will you achieve said goal? Break down the steps or the means you will pursue to make it happen. For example, if you want to quit smoking, make a list of treatment plans you want to consider trying. Or if you want to lose weight, create a gym schedule or an exercise and meal plan.
Out of sight, out of mind. That is precisely why you need to keep these goals visible. Make it a part of your day to review your goal to help keep you on track. Set a reminder on your phone, keep a note by your mirror or carry it around in your wallet or purse.
Just because it is possible does not necessarily mean it is probable. Be realistic and set attainable goals. Setting lofty goals can be daunting and may work against your confidence. If you’d like, breakdown your ultimate goal into smaller ones, that way they aren’t too intimidating and you can celebrate your accomplishments along the way.
Involve your loved ones. Let someone you trust in on your plans, that way when you’re feeling discouraged, they can help you stay on track. Even better, if they have similar goals, you can create a group and work together.
As you continue to succeed, you can modify your goals and resolutions. For example, if your goal involves spending less money on certain things, you can start a savings account for your surplus funds, or donate to a charity of your choice.
These tips don’t just apply to New Year’s resolutions. Employ these tactics throughout the year, whether it is in regards to things like work, school, family, or relationships. It’s never too late to start!
