How To Program An Intertel Phone

If your office still uses Inter-Tel Axxess telephones and programming the phones is necessary, here are some helpful tips.
Setting the Date & Time
While the phone is on the hook, press 9-8-0-0 on the keypad. The display should read “DATE.” Enter the correct date in MMDDYY form. Example – April 2, 2010 would be input as 040210. If the date is correct, press # to skip.

Ignore No More – The Ideal Parent App
The basic premise of the app is that if a parent calls a child’s cell phone and he/she doesn’t answer, the phone will lock all functions, only allowing the child to call his/her parents or 911. The only person with the code to unlock the phone is the parent, thus the child must call to check in and obtain the code.
For $1.99 per download (on your phone and each of your children’s phones), you can set up the IgnoreNoMore app. First, you’ll want to download it on your phone and create the main account. This will act as the master app and you’ll want to keep your login information private.
Next, download and install the app on your child’s phone. Follow the steps using your original log in information, but choose the option of setting it up for a child. Enter your child’s name and review the permissions before you activate.
Once activated, you’ll need to exit the app and go to contacts. Find the contact group titled “ICE – emergency contacts.” The only contacts in this group should be 911 and your contact information. These are the only contacts that will be available when your child’s phone is locked.
When you need to contact your child, open the app and choose from your children. You will then create a password that will unlock your son or daughter’s phone. Give them a call and if they don’t answer, their phone will automatically lock. However, if you don’t call immediately after locking the phone, the app will activate unexpectedly and delay their attempts to call you.
Currently, this app is only available on Android devices, but an iPhone version is in the works. We would like to hear from parents and children – how do you feel about this app? Share your thoughts with us on Twitter, Facebook, or Google+.

Tips For A Successful Video Conference Call
Know your equipment.
If you have never used your video device before, be sure to get familiar with it before your big day. By becoming familiar with your equipment early, this will allow you to correct any issues before the meeting. Also, it will save you the embarrassment if something doesn’t work. You waste everyone’s time if you are busy trying to solve a technical problem while on the call.
Position the camera for an optimal view.
No matter your setting, a suitable camera angle will add to the quality of the meeting. Preview the image and adjust accordingly. A common issue is that people sit too far from the camera. Be sure to sit close enough so you can be seen and heard adequately. Beware of background light as it may wash out the picture. And remember, this is a professional interaction – posture and body language are important. With that said…
Be presentable.
You may be participating in this conference call from home, but that doesn’t mean you can dress and act that way. Dress as if you were going to an actual meeting in an office and were going to meet people in person. The technology may have changed but professionalism should remain the same.
Focus on the call.
Keep your attention on the meeting. There may be distractions around you but do your best to avoid them and stay engaged in the conversation. Your eyes should remain on the screen unless you need to take notes or attend to something related to the conversation. Remember, not only are you watching them, but they’re watching you too.
Know when it’s appropriate to mute.
Since these conferences can be conducted remotely, there may be a lot of background noise where you are. If you aren’t speaking and background noise exists, be sure to mute. Also remember to turn it off when you need to speak.
Disconnect completely when finished.
After the conference or meeting has completed, remember to disconnect from the call properly. Double check that you’ve hung up and disconnected completely. Also, log out and close any applications related to the call.
Take these tips into consideration for your next video conference call. Soon enough, video conference calls will become the standard.

Phone System Maintenance Tips To Reduce Costs
Phone Placement
Consider where you place your phone in relation to equipment that may interfere with your calls. Things like microwaves or WiFi transmitters or routers can pose a threat to your call quality. Keep your business phones away from these and you can decrease phone call interference.
Unified Communications
Weigh the options of unified communications. Unified communications merges your communication avenues, such as emails, fax and voicemail, onto one network through Voice over IP (VoIP) technologies. The cost of this upgrade or transition will pay off in the long run, allowing you to set up your phones all at once and remotely. Your communications system is simplified and easily accessible.
Power Source
Power outages and power surges may damage your telephone systems. In case of these events, it’s crucial to have a quality battery backup with surge protection will maintain your system and protect its programming and memory. Not to mention your communication system will remain intact in potential emergencies. Be sure your battery backup can handle your entire phone system.
Power-over-Ethernet
PoE systems cut down on cabling costs as the source for connection and power are merged into one. This also limits confusion with cabling and makes cable runs a bit easier. In relation to power, it maximizes the performance of a single battery backup.
On-site PBX
If you are confident in your troubleshooting skills, you may consider installing a PBX system onsite. Cut out the middle man and manage your VoIP phone system through your own network. Eliminate a phone bill and integrate your system with your network.

Is A Longer Cell Phone Battery Life In Our Near Future?
Smart phone companies have capitalized on this by offering car chargers, portable batteries, cases with a built in battery extender and much more. While consumers would much rather see a phone come out with improved battery power, we give into these accessories because they can be more cost-efficient than upgrading. However, there just might be an answer to these battery life woes.
Researchers at Stanford University are proposing that they’ve designed a pure lithium anode that could drastically extend cell phone battery life. Most smart phones out there that boast a Lithium-Ion battery, but they do not utilized the lithium to its full extent. Lithium is has the highest energy density which is why it’s used is smart phone batteries. It is also lightweight, allowing smart phones to remain relatively light and compact. Producing a pure lithium anode would allow batteries to get the maximum energy and potential, however, when charged, lithium ions expand. This expansion is so strong that it could potentially cause physical damage to the phone. Another problem is that recharging abilities decrease dramatically after some charges.
The Stanford researchers have created a pure lithium anode that does not expand and remains efficiently rechargeable. With further advancements, this technology can be downsized, enabling smaller batteries with excellent performance. The downfall is that this battery has a 99% efficiency rating, just shy of the 99.9% standard. While this sounds good in theory, we may have to wait a bit longer for the super battery.
Would you trade in your current smart phone for one that promoted a battery life three times longer than the average? Would a high price tag make you question the purchase or do you think it would be worth it? We want to hear from you – connect with us on Twitter, Facebook or Google+.

Cell Phone Etiquette: The Do’s And Don’ts You Should Know
Do:
Do give your undivided attention to your friend. Be present in the moment and save your personal affairs for your own time.
Do put your phone away. Put your phone on vibrate or silent and tuck it away. Avoid placing it on the table as it is impolite and you may find yourself distracted or tempted to check it. Out of sight, out of mind.
Do utilize your voicemail. A voicemail box is standard on all cell phones, so put it to use. Let the person leave you a message and you can respond when you’re not otherwise occupied.
Do filter your language when speaking on your phone in public places. You may not realize it, but you may be speaking loudly and people around you may hear your conversation. Be aware of your surroundings and do your best to not offend others in the area.
With that said, do keep a reasonably respectful distance from those around you when speaking on your cell phone. If you’re indoors, excuse yourself and step outside to take your call. If there are people outside as well, approximately 10 feet/3 meters is a safe distance to maintain.
Do respect common quiet zones. Always silence or turn off your phone and put it away in places like churches, theaters, libraries, etc.
Don’t:
Don’t yell. You may not realize it yourself, but we all tend to raise our voice volume when speaking on our cell phones. If the person can’t hear you, speak closer to the microphone and/or make use of a cupped hand.
Don’t argue in public. As previously stated, most people around you can hear your conversation. Even if you take measures to move away from people, you are likely to raise your voice, calling attention to yourself. Avoid an uncomfortable situation and discuss it later. This will allow both parties to cool down and may even help the situation.
Don’t make people wait. You are devaluing their time. When you’re at a restaurant or in line to order, put your phone away so that you’re ready when they get to you. You’re not only making the staff wait, but you’re also making everyone else wait.
Don’t text and drive. Just don’t. It can wait – put your phone away for the safety of yourself and others.
Good manners and politeness can go a long way. It’s easy to get caught up in our cell phones, as it provides nearly everything at our fingertips. But it is important to take some time to unplug from technology and enjoy the simple things in life. Be sure to keep these tips in mind when interacting with others, whether formally or informally.

Can Cell Phones Cause Cancer?
While the high SAR ratings can be shocking, it is wise to understand how damaging or harmless this can be. Radiation can be categorized into two types, ionizing and non-ionizing. As noted on cancer.gov, exposure to ionizing radiation increases the risk of cancer. Ionizing radiation includes x-rays and cosmic rays. The radiation coming from your mobile phone is non-ionizing, such as radiofrequency. According to the article, heating is the only effect of this radiation. Regardless, SAR rating is put in place to protect the public.
Still, some studies show a minor connection between certain cancers and cell phones. The results were less than compelling, but did show proof of a link, however major or minor. However, other factors may not have been evaluated and can attribute to the risk and development of these cancers.
With the increase of cell phone users, and with users starting at such a young age, concerns have risen over time, spurring more studies. Have you ever thought about the radiation risks? Do you limit your time on your cell phone because of this? We would love to hear your thoughts on the topic. You can find us on Twitter, Facebook and our new verified Google+ page.

Business Mobile App Myths Dispelled
As hard as it is to accept, much of our society is dependent upon their smart phone. This is precisely why creating an app for your small business can be vital to your success. Sure, your website and your social media sites are helpful, but an app can bridge all your networks together for better cohesiveness.
Mobile apps can work in conjunction with your social media sites. You can cross promote your app and social networks to gain a larger audience. If time is your concern, it shouldn’t be. Just like updating your social networks content, a few minutes a day dedicated to updating your app is all it takes.
With your mobile app, you can offer special perks, coupons, or discounts. These types of bonuses help to draw the customer in and keep them hooked. Your app can be the focal point of your business, depending on your demographic and how well your app performs off the bat. For example, take a look at Starbucks. Their mobile app has become one of their staples, offering exclusive incentives the more you use their app.
If you’re a small business either starting out or fairly established, it would be wise to consider delving into the mobile app realm. If it doesn’t work for you, then at least you tried. But it could potentially open doors for your business.
To those companies that do utilize a mobile app – have you found success with it? Any tips for those just starting out? Share your words of wisdom, or caution, with us on Twitter, Facebook and Google+.

What are the advantages of Mobile Payments?
With Starbucks’ success with their mobile payment app, it’s only a matter of time that more and more companies will jump on board. While there are obvious security concerns, the benefits seem to outweigh these issues.
With the Chick-fil-A app, you must download the app to your phone and create an account. You then add money to the account via a credit card. Since you’re not directly paying from one of your personal finance accounts, and more credit cards offer fraud protection, you’re covered should a security breach occur.
By not having to carry multiple debit and credit cards the chances of them being lost or stolen are decreased. However, this puts more value on your cell phone. In order to protect yourself and your personal information, utilizing a strong password to unlock your phone is a smart choice. Your password acts as a smart security measure in the event your phone is lost or stolen.
Mobile payments allow for easy and simple payments from any location and can also significantly cut wait times. By ordering and paying ahead, simply walking in to pick up your order can help you navigate through your day much easier. Also, remote payment for certain bills, for example, can save you a trip to the store or branch. This can also help to eliminate late fees, as you can set a reminder on your phone and pay right then and there.
Exclusive incentives only accessible through these apps add to their growing popularity. If you can get special perks by using an app, most people will take a minute to download the app and use it. As much as our society loves convenience, added perks act as the icing on the cake.
We would love to hear from you. Do you use any apps for mobile payments? Do you maintain a mobile wallet? Why do you or don’t you use these apps? Share with us on Twitter, Facebook, or Google+.

Smart Voice Services
As our means of communications continues to transform, a light is shed on Smart Voice services. Conversations with Siri or utilizing voice commands on our smart phones are some of the convenient ways we can profit from this technology. Smart Voice allows voice to become data to be stored for easy retrieval and authentication for various situations.
Smart Voice services include call recording, as well as archiving, voice biometrics and analytics. For call centers especially, these Smart Voice services can provide faster, more secure and better quality interactions leading to increased productivity and improved service.
With Smart Voice services, voice data is saved and can be used for analyzing interactions. Indexing and archiving voice data files makes it easier to search for recordings when problems or disputes arise. The call recording can be retrieved and reviewed to resolve the problem.
HD voice quality is pertinent to many aspects of Smart Voice. In relation to voice biometrics, HD voice quality allows for faster, precise identification of a person. Voice identification can also be a more secure way of verifying identity than exchanging personal information over the phone. Call quality is also improved, minimizing miscommunications. Speech-to-text is reliant upon voice quality for accurate results.
While this technology is helpful to call centers, its value outside of that realm is in question. While the voice services on our smart phones can be helpful, how often do we really use them? With options like Skype and Google Voice, and the prevalence of texts and emails, it’s hard to plead a case for voice communications.
Do you feel that Smart Voice has a promising future? Is there still value in voice communications? We would love to hear what you have to say about this topic. Share with us on Twitter, Facebook or Google+.
